GRANTSBURG, Wis. — Bryer Burkhart bounced off a couple of would-be tacklers and saw nothing but green grass ahead of him.
Northwestern’s senior running back hit the afterburners and cruised into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown that gave his Tigers a 37-8 lead over Grantsburg, which all but ended the Division 5 sectional title game on Friday, Nov. 7.
“I was bouncing around like a pinball machine,” Burkhart said. “I managed to find a hole and then ran for dear life. I broke through and was just thinking, ‘Hold the ball, don’t fumble.’ It was just ball security and flying down the field.”
It was the most crucial of Burkhart’s 15 carries, which yielded 184 yards, a season high that propelled Northwestern (12-0) to a 44-16 victory over Grantsburg (11-1) and a second-straight Division 5
