LA PUENTE — Bishop Amat took care of business as the top seed in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 football playoffs, fending off pesky Murrieta Mesa, 28-9, in the first round on Friday.
But Bishop Amat coach Kory Minor knows they must play a lot better when they travel to take on Oxnard Pacifica, a 42-21 winner over Oak Hills, in the second round next week.
“We didn’t play quality football, we didn’t look good across the board,” Minor said afterward. “At the end of the day I’m happy we got the win. Life lessons, learned lessons, we’ll be alright.”
Amat’s defense led the way, paced by senior linebacker Gabriel Hernandez, who has seven tackles. The defensive unit totaled two safeties, two turnovers and forced multipe three-and-outs.
