The Winter Session of Parliament will take place from December 1 to December 19, 2025, as announced by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. This decision has been approved by President Droupadi Murmu. Rijiju shared this information on the social media platform X, expressing hope for a "constructive and meaningful Session that strengthens our democracy and serves the aspirations of the people."
The session is expected to address several key legislations, including the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, and the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill. Other significant measures on the agenda include the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill.
This session follows a turbulent Monsoon Session, which ended on August 21 amid disruptions and protests, particularly concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls. The Lok Sabha managed only 37 hours of business, far below the target of 120 hours.
Political analysts anticipate a contentious atmosphere during the upcoming session, especially with the Opposition poised to challenge the government on various issues, including electoral transparency and governance reforms, in the wake of the recent Bihar Assembly elections. The Winter Session will be crucial for both the ruling coalition and the Opposition as they navigate a packed legislative agenda and prepare for the upcoming budget year.
