GATES MILLS, Ohio — Akron East made history.

The Dragons had their first 10-win season after beating host Hawken 36-16 to advance to the final four in Division III, Region 9 of OHSAA football playoffs. The Dragons (10-2), the sixth-seed, will travel to second-seed CVCA next.

“I’m so proud of our seniors. Man, we had a lot of alumni guys who came out tonight to cheer these guys on,” said Dragons head coach Marques Hayes. “It’s just an awesome feeling. You know, we’ve never had a 10-win season in the history of East football. We’ve never been to Week 13 in the history of East football. So, you know we’re going to enjoy it.”

The Dragons did it on both sides of the ball. They play fast and they were precise. When they needed 18 yards, they got 20. That style just broke down the Hawks’ mojo.
