CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Monsters dropped a 2-1 decision to the Providence Bruins on Friday night at Rocket Arena, falling to 3-2-2-1 on the season and sixth place in the AHL’s North Division standings.
Providence seized control in the opening period with two late goals. Dans Locmelis scored shorthanded at 16:57, and John Farinacci added another at 19:36 to put the Bruins ahead 2-0 after 20 minutes.
Cleveland cut the deficit in half during the second period when Roman Ahcan converted a shorthanded opportunity at 15:32. Corson Ceulemans assisted on the goal that made it 2-1 heading into the final frame.
The Monsters mounted a strong push in the third period but could not find the equalizer.
