The New York Mets know they have very valuable players that are set to hit free agency this winter. While Pete Alonso may be the first name that comes to mind, he isn't the only player that has significant value to Steve Cohen and David Stearns.

Edwin Diaz is one of baseball's best closers, and the Mets know they cannot allow him to walk away freely. The bullpen cannot become a weak spot for New York, or it will have a hard time contending next season. It's why MLB insider Joel Sherman believes Diaz is more likely to return to the organization than Alonso.

"Most people think that Pete Alonso is the more likely guy to return," Sherman said on MLB Network . "I think Edwin Díaz is the more likely guy to return."
