MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. is launching a new store‑floor initiative obligating employees to smile, make eye contact and greet customers when they approach, according to internal guidance the company confirmed to Bloomberg .

Bloomberg reported under the so‑called “10‑4” program, employees are instructed that if a customer comes within 10 feet they should smile, make eye contact and wave or say hello; if the customer comes within 4 feet, employees must ask if they need assistance or how their day is going.

The move is part of Target’s effort to sharpen the in‑store experience ahead of the holiday season and address softening sales and shopper traffic, Bloomberg said.
