York Catholic defeated Delone Catholic, 33-25 in the District 3 Class 1A football championship at Sheppard-Myers Stadium on Friday. The Fighting Irish (5-6) avenged a loss to the Squires (8-3) on the same stage last year and won their fifth district title in the process.
Delone Catholic jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Elijah Ramseur ran in a 53-yard touchdown and Parker Hohenstein threw a 10-yard scoring connection to Colin Redding. Michael Staub retaliated for York Catholic with a 78 touchdown pass to Callahan Murphy and a 6-yard keeper to pay dirt to draw even 14-14 through the first quarter.
