Detroit — A Canadian freighter that ran aground in the Detroit River Friday was still stuck Saturday afternoon near the downtown riverfront east of the Renaissance Center.

On Saturday, shortly before noon, the MV Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin was no longer perpendicular to the shore as it was Friday. Instead, the freighter, 738 feet in length, was parallel to the riverbank, which is the normal direction freighters traverse the river. Several tugboats were alongside it.

The ship's "re-float plan is being reviewed for approval," said the Coast Guard public affairs office for the Great Lakes District in a Saturday email. "The Coast Guard continues to closely monitor the situation and is maintaining communication with stakeholders involved in the response."
