TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Tallahassee chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace marked a major milestone Saturday, celebrating its 100th community bunk bed build day.
More than 100 volunteers from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, DISC Village, the Northside Kiwanis Club and other local organizations gathered at DISC Village to assemble 30 bunk beds- 60 beds in total.
These beds are for children who would otherwise be sleeping on the floor. Chapter President John Cousins said the work is needed for the community.
“Three percent of the population in the country are children without a bed,” Cousins said. “When you look at Leon County itself with over 300,000 people, that’s 10,000 beds just in Leon County, let alone the outside counties.”
