WHAT to make of the Carney government’s first budget? Well, let’s see.

If it was meant to put relief in the minds, and money in the pockets of financially-stressed Canadians, it has failed to “meet the moment” as more than one pundit put it.

Finance Minister François Philippe “Squeaky” Champagne said in his animated speech Tuesday that the budget will result in an additional $3,000 for every Canadian. He did not say when that would happen. He and many others did say this is a “generational” budget that, frankly, reads like it will take a generation to usher in the bright future it promises.
