The owner and general manager of the Niagara region’s newest Triple-A senior hockey team wants the St. Catharines Saints to be more than a skate down memory lane and a slapshot blast from the distant past.
Besides competing for an Allan Cup Hockey championship with a roster of junior and university hockey graduates, many of them former pros, Pat Smith also wants to help guide those players on a career and life path after they play their final game at a high level.
“Don’t get me wrong, we definitely want to compete on the ice and win an Allan Cup championship, but also, just as important, off the ice, is to prepare players for a life after hockey,” he said. “We’ve created a network of all different trades as well as sponsors to help these guys figure out their next step in life.”
