KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The American Royal World Series of BBQ is taking place this weekend at Kansas Speedway, drawing over 400 teams from around the country.
The event features a variety of competitions, including an invitational and a kids' competition, where teams showcase their skills in smoking ribs, brisket, pork and chicken.
"We came a long way to be here, so it means that much to us," said Bobby Phillips II of Can't Get It Right Cookers, who is competing alone for the first time after the passing of his father five years ago.
Bobby is carrying on his family's legacy in barbecue competitions. His father, who passed away five years ago, was a regular competitor, and Bobby is determined to compete in all the places his father did.
