As the 50th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald approaches, memorials are being planned all across the Great Lakes. From a special mariner’s church in Detroit to a clifftop lighthouse overlooking Lake Superior, the Mighty Fitz and her 29 lost crewman will be honored with special tributes for the next few days.
Some can be attended in person. Others are available via livestream. Here’s a roundup of some of the memorial highlights:
Sunday, Nov. 9
The historic Mariners’ Church of Detroit will mark the 50-year anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking with a couple different events. On Sunday, the church will host an 11 a.m. memorial service as a tribute to the Fitzgerald’s crew.
