Traffic was halted on a stretch of the M60 tonight (Saturday) after a van was engulfed by flames.

The white van caught fire on the anticlockwise stretch of the motorway near junction 23 for Ashton and Audenshaw.

Pictures and video showed bright orange flames lapping up from the front portion of the vehicle.

Smoke could be seen billowing into the air as traffic initially passed the scene.

The emergency services were alerted and police temporarily halted traffic in the area whilst firefighters tackled the blaze.
