CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University ceramics students helped raise money for Heartland charities by contributing their works to the Empty Bowls fundraiser.

Student and staff members made approximately 200 ceramic bowls that were sold with food during the fundraiser.

Student-artist, Jim Alworth, said it’s a way to give to the community, “Food insecurity has been an ongoing issue in our country. So, this is a way for artists to come together, especially ceramics, to make bowls to address the concern. It just reminds people that there are people that don’t have the same options that they do for food.”

SIU students first started doing the Empty Bowls program in 2014.
