PHOENIX — A teacher in Mesa accused of physically assaulting a student has been arrested, according to officials with the Mesa Police Department.
Nathan Hansen, 52, a teacher at American Leadership Academy in Mesa, allegedly shoved a student to the ground and dragged him by his hoodie off a basketball court after the student attempted to grab a phone from his hands.
Mesa police were called to ALA near Power and Sossaman roads around 3 p.m. on Nov. 6 for reports of the assault. When officers arrived, they learned a 14-year-old student was involved in a physical altercation with Hansen, Mesa police said.
Initial reports show that the alleged assault happened during a physical education class during school hours, Mesa police said.
