Victoria Police have again moved into remote bushland near Mount Buffalo as the search for accused double murderer Dezi Freeman intensifies.

The latest operation saw officers block access to tracks, and fire multiple controlled shots as part of a targeted acoustic investigation.

Taskforce Summit led the effort on Wednesday near the Buckland River, where roads were shut down for several hours while specialist units carried out sound testing designed to trace the origin of a gunshot reported on the day two officers were killed.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, up to 30 rounds of varying calibres were discharged into the surrounding bush, with police recording how the sound travelled through the steep, heavily forested terrain.
