Former deputy prime minister John Anderson has rubbished shadow housing minister Andrew Bragg’s defence of net zero and said the international community was “walking away” from its climate commitments.

Shadow housing minister Andrew Bragg warned on Sunday he would resign from the frontbench if the Liberal Party abandoned the Paris Agreement but expressed confidence that such a move would be unlikely.

"I don’t imagine that we would ever leave Paris. We’re a party of government, right? We’re not a fringe party,” Mr Bragg told ABC’s Insiders program.

“I would have thought that the most reasonable position here would be to stay in Paris (Accord), maintain that commitment to do a better job on net zero than Labor,” he said.
