CLEVELAND, Ohio — Avon exacted revenge Saturday in the Division II girls volleyball state semifinal, sweeping Magnificat 3-0 to advance to the state championship match and avenge its only loss of the season.

The Eagles (26-1) defeated the Blue Streaks 25-21, 25-23, 28-26. Avon will face Whitehouse Anthony Wayne (27-1) at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wright State University. The Eagles lost to Anthony Wayne in last year’s state semifinals, their first trip to the final four in school history.

Magnificat handed Avon its lone defeat Oct. 15, winning 3-1 in a match where each set was decided by two or three points. Saturday’s rematch proved just as competitive, with all three sets closely contested.
