There are many words beginning with the letter “F” that could be used to describe Dianne Sattler.
Forthright, undoubtedly. Fierce, definitely (but in that positive modern sense). Fearsome, sometimes. Formidable, always. Funny, when she wants to be (and then often wickedly so). But foolish? Never.
So, I have no doubt that when I meet with the now-retired inaugural STM editor and my former boss, she knows it is under somewhat false pretences.
Sattler arrives dressed in her signature black. In more than 20 years of knowing her, the only time I have seen the media maven divert from her monochrome palette, which may or may not be an outward representation of the ink that flows through her veins, has been for the addition of a fabulous pair of shoes. On this occasion, leopard print heels but
