The event featured a gumbo cook-off and tasting, live music by Robo Go-Go, raffles, and all proceeds went to Stemley, who is facing a $5,500 balance for funeral expenses. Until the balance is paid, she cannot take possession of her husband's body for burial, said Brenda Mack, owner of B Mac's.
“We’re doing a benefit today as a community effort for Lisa Stemley," said Mack. "If we can’t help our neighbors or our community then why are we here," she said.
