A potential teacher strike at Minneapolis Public Schools has been averted with days to spare after a tentative agreement was struck between district and union leaders.

Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) and the Minneapolis Federation of Educators (MFE) announced the tentative contract deal on Saturday evening. Union leaders had served notice to strike at any point from Nov. 11 onwards.

In a statement, MPS said the agreement "honors the requests and needs of our staff while balancing the fiscal realities our district is facing."

Details of the agreement haven't yet been released, but MFE says it covers three different contracts for teachers, educational support professionals, and adult educators within Minneapolis Public Schools.

MFE members will have to vote on whether to accept the deal
