COLUMBIA, S.C. — A sharp blast of cold air is on the way to the Midlands early next week, prompting the News19 Weather Team to issue a Weather Impact Alert beginning Monday morning.

After a stretch of warm and mostly sunny days, a noticeable chill will sweep in as temperatures take a dramatic dive after a strong cold front moves through the region. Monday’s afternoon high is expected to reach only 52 degrees, while overnight lows will tumble into the upper 20s by early Tuesday. Frost is expected to linger into Wednesday morning as temperatures hover near the freezing mark. The quick cooldown could pose a threat to outdoor plants, pets, and exposed pipes.

Before winter-like air arrives, the Midlands will enjoy one final taste of mild weather on Sunday.
