BHOPAL: Munna Singh Gaud, the father of Women’s World Cup-winning cricketer Kranti Gaud, will be reinstated as a police constable, as announced by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Gaud was dismissed in 2012 due to an alleged mistake during election duty, which led to significant financial struggles for the family. This announcement was made during a felicitation ceremony for Kranti in Bhopal, where the Chief Minister praised her for bringing pride to the nation and the state.
Kranti shared that her family faced severe hardships after her father's dismissal, often relying on neighbours for food. She expressed her desire to see her father wear the police uniform again and retire with dignity. "There were days when we could not even afford a single meal," she recalled. The Chief Minister stated, "It is only right that her father’s dignity is also restored," highlighting the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by families of athletes.
In addition to the reinstatement, Yadav announced plans to construct a world-class stadium in Chhatarpur, Kranti’s hometown, to nurture local sporting talent. He also revealed plans for a grand public event on November 15, Tribal Pride Day, to celebrate Kranti's achievements.
Kranti shared an inspiring story about the Indian team’s semifinal victory over Australia, which was motivated by a four-month-old child. Before the match, the coaching staff met a woman at a temple who expressed her wish for her daughter to become a cricketer. This heartfelt moment resonated with the team, leading them to vow not to lose. "The thought of a mother, so devoted to women’s cricket, dreaming of her baby becoming part of this sport moved us all," Kranti said.
As a World Cup winner, Kranti has become a source of inspiration for many, and her success is expected to encourage more girls to pursue sports. Her family’s journey reflects the potential for dreams to be realized with support and determination.
