Sean Middleborough, a 32-year-old inmate at HMP Wandsworth, has reportedly gone missing after being granted temporary bail to attend his brother's wedding. Middleborough, who was on remand for an alleged plot by Palestine Action to disrupt the London Stock Exchange, failed to return to the prison, prompting an immediate search by authorities.
A government spokesperson stated, "Court bail decisions are made by judges – independently of the Government. Absconding is a serious criminal offence, and any defendant who commits this crime could face longer behind bars." The spokesperson also confirmed that police are actively working to recapture Middleborough and urged anyone with information to contact them.
This incident follows the recent mistaken releases of two other inmates from the same facility. Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, a 24-year-old sex offender, was accidentally released on October 29 and remained at large until his arrest on November 7. Another inmate, William Smith, was mistakenly released on November 3. Although police issued a public appeal for information regarding Smith, he later returned to custody voluntarily.
The situation at HMP Wandsworth raises concerns about the management of inmates and the processes surrounding temporary releases. Authorities are under pressure to ensure the safety of the public and the integrity of the justice system as they continue their search for Middleborough.
