Fourteen months have passed since a drunken driver crashed his pickup truck head-on into Oakland County resident Sawyer Pierce’s vehicle.

Pierce, whose body was crushed, was nearly killed at 28 years old.

Since then, he has fought to recover from severe head and brain trauma, the near-severing of his right arm, injury to multiple organs, several broken bones, internal bleeding, various lacerations and more.

He spent a month in intensive care, in-and-out of consciousness, enduring brain hemorrhages, blood clots, infections and multiple surgeries. He still faces other surgeries.

After the lengthy hospital stay, Pierce was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation center where he spent four months before returning to his Highland Township home.
