A grieving young widow from the North East had to arrange her husband's funeral without knowing exactly what killed him. Keen cyclist John Michael Liddle, 44, died more than two weeks after he was struck by a minibus that tried to overtake him.
An inquest held earlier this year heard how father-of-two John, 44, was on his bike when he was struck from behind by a minibus in Gateshead at around 11.40pm on May 3, 2023.
He never recovered from his head injuries and died in hospital on May 21. No criminal charges were brought against the minibus driver and John's funeral was held about a month after his death.
