A Lindenhurst man was killed and another was injured when their boat overturned in rough water at the mouth of Fire Island Inlet Saturday afternoon, Nov. 8, according to the Suffolk County Police Department
At 4:10 p.m., police said Christopher Sicignano, 68, was operating a boat entering the inlet when it capsized. Sicignano and his passenger, David Johnson, 70, both of Lindenhurst, were thrown into the water. Neither was wearing a life jacket, authorities said
A passing boater reported the incident over UHF radio, prompting response from Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers and the United States Coast Guard, according to the release
Sicignano was rescued by a good Samaritan and taken to the Robert Moses State Park Boat Basin before being transported by the West Islip Fire Department Rescue Squad to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where he was treated and released, police said.
Johnson was pulled from the water by the Coast Guard and taken to Coast Guard Station Babylon, then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
