Panthers running back Rico Dowdle was penalized and fined last week when he recreated the "two pump rule" celebration from a Key & Peele sketch.
At the time, Dowdle was actually surprised that the refs threw a flag despite him limiting the celebration to two pumps. But a fictional sketch is different from NFL rules, so the Panthers running back made it clear he learned his lesson on Sunday.
In Week 10's matchup with the NFC South rival Saints, Dowdle opened the scoring on a five-yard touchdown run. He lined up as if he was once again going to do the "two pump" celebration. But this time, he didn't pump. It was a great fake-out to make light of last week's penalty.
After the penalty and $14,000 fine, Keegan-Michael Key called in for a Panthers team meeting to let Dowdle know that he was making a $15,000 donation to the charity of Dowdle's choice. So, that was nice.
And hey, Dowdle wasn't the only one to have that joke. Aaron Jokes faked the "two pump" celebration as well after his touchdown.
I guess players are on notice about the actual rule.
