KENOVA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities recovered a body from the Big Sandy River on Saturday afternoon, identifying the individual as 42-year-old Mompida Hay of Ashland.
Kenova Police said Hay is believed to have jumped from the Interstate 64 bridge on October 27.
Rescue teams from Ceredo and Kenova fire departments, along with personnel from Wayne and Boyd counties, had been searching the river since the incident but were initially unable to locate him.
The body was spotted by two kayakers more than a mile downstream from the bridge, prompting recovery efforts around 4 p.m.
Police have turned the body over to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation.
