A lake effect snow warning was released by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 1:57 p.m. valid from 7 p.m. until Tuesday 1 p.m. for Southern Erie.

"Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 11 inches. Highest totals will be across the higher elevations of northwest Pennsylvania," explains the weather service. "Localized tree damage and power outages are possible due to the combined weight of wet snow accumulations and leaves remaining on the trees. Snowfall rates within the strongest bands may reach 1 to 2 inches per hour."

"Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities will drop below 1/4 mile in heavy snow. Travel will be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and eveni
