Israel says it has received the remains of another hostage held in Gaza and formally identified them as belonging to an Israeli soldier killed in 2014.

Lieutenant Hadar Goldin's body was held in Gaza after he was killed on August 1, 2014, two hours after a ceasefire took effect, ending that year's war between Israel and Hamas.

His remains were the only ones from before the latest war between Israel and Hamas that were still held in Gaza.

The Palestinian militant group said his remains were found in a tunnel in the enclave's southernmost city of Rafah on Saturday.

The Red Cross then took the body from Gaza on Sunday afternoon, local time, before handing it over to Israel and its national forensic institute for identification.
