FILER, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Filer Rural Fire District conducted a rare live fire training exercise Saturday morning, creating a large smoke plume visible throughout the area.
The controlled burn took place at an abandoned building that has been set for sale. For the past few weeks, the fire district has been training inside the structure, but Saturday’s exercise gave firefighters a chance to experience real fire conditions.
“We don’t get to do this very often. So it’s a benefit to be able to see it live,” said Fire Chief Phil Roberts.
The hands-on training allowed firefighters to feel the heat and ensure their safety equipment functions properly in actual fire conditions.
