PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates have re-elected Don Scott, who represents part of Portsmouth, as Speaker of the House following a vote on Sunday.
Scott, a member of the house since 2020, has been speaker since January 2024. He made history by becoming the first Black person to serve in the role in Virginia history.
“It’s been the honor of my life to serve as Speaker, and I’m grateful to my colleagues for their trust and partnership,” Scott stated in a press release from the Virginia House Democrats. “Leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about service. Together, we’ve shown what’s possible when we lead with purpose and put people first.
