CARY, N.C. (WNDU) - The top two teams in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA women’s soccer poll faced off for the ACC women’s soccer championship on Sunday afternoon, and it went the way of the top-ranked team as No. 1 Stanford defeated No. 2 Notre Dame in penalty kicks.

Stanford (16-1-2) led 2-0 until Izzy Engle put Notre Dame (14-1-3) on the board in the 69th minute. Charlie Codd then scored the equalizer in the 75th minute.

After two scoreless overtimes, the top-ranked Cardinal outlasted the Irish 5-4 in PKs to win the ACC title.

According to our reporting partners at the South Bend Tribune , the Irish are projected to be a top seed when the NCAA Tournament draw is released on Monday afternoon.
