It could have been a sleepy Sunday afternoon at PPG Paints Arena, with the Penguins on the second game of a back-to-back and the NFL slate in full swing. But a 21-year-old Russian ensured the energy inside the building didn’t match the dreary weather draping Western Pennsylvania.

Penguins goalie Sergei Murashov made his NHL debut against the Kings, stopping 24 of the 27 shots he faced including several highlight saves. But after piling up wins in the AHL and ECHL since the start of last season, his first NHL start ended in a 3-2 defeat.
