The Red Sox are in the process of putting together their roster for next season. Part of that is building depth, and they just lost a depth piece to free agency. Veteran outfielder Trayce Thompson has elected free agency , according to his transaction log.
Thompson has played in 369 games in Major League Baseball, but has spent the last two seasons in Triple-A. The Red Sox signed him to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training last offseason.
Thompson is the younger brother of four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson. Like his older brother, he has spent most of his career playing in his home state of California. Before signing with the Red Sox, Thompson had played for the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Athletics, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres.
