LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – While war continues between Russia and Ukraine, people from Ukraine wanted to show their appreciation for those who stepped in to offer help.
The appreciation dinner gave the Ukrainian community in Lincoln an opportunity to thank Nebraskans through a dinner that included food from the country. It’s an impactful message from someone who came to the U.S. years ago.
“It’s mind-blowing that people who don’t know Ukraine and now they know, and people who don’t know a single Ukrainian still help Ukrainians and so many Americans,” said Mykhailo Smyshlyayev, a Ukrainian. “I am just shocked.”
Several state leaders showed up, including former state senator Tom Brewer, who lends a hand when he can.
