New South Wales has recorded its lowest average rainfall for October since 2019, in the lead-up to the Black Summer bushfires, as much of Australia gears up for warmer-than-usual summer months.
The state experienced rainfall 59 per cent below the average for October, which takes into account records beginning in 1900, according to the Bureau of Meteorology's (BoM) drought statement.
Parts of Victoria and south-east Queensland also received rainfall 30 per cent lower than the average for October, with the Bureau warning that rainfall deficiencies have increased in southern areas of New South Wales.
