Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a one-year-old boy who was taken to hospital unresponsive by his mother and her partner last week.

Police said they were told the child had become unresponsive at home in Sebastopol, in Ballarat’s south, about 12pm on Tuesday, November 4.

The boy was then taken to hospital by the 26-year-old mother and her 18-year-old male partner but died two days later.

“Sadly, the child passed away in a Melbourne hospital on November 6,” a police spokesperson said.

“The exact circumstances leading up to the child’s death are still being determined.”

Detectives from the homicide squad and the Ballarat child abuse and sexual assault investigation team had spoken with the mother and her partner, and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
