Srinagar, Nov 10: The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Kashmir has secured the conviction of former Sub-Inspector Jagdesh Singh for manipulating his date of birth in official records to unlawfully extend his police service by two years.
A Srinagar court sentenced Singh, son of Kartar Singh and a resident of Atina, Budgam, to three years of simple imprisonment along with fines for offences related to fraud and forgery. The conviction was linked to FIR No. 32/2013 registered under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
According to the Crime Branch, the case originated from a communication from the Police Headquarters (PHQ) J&K, which revealed that Singh had altered his year of birth from 1957 to 1959 to illegally prolong his service tenure. Investigation
