Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced that singing Vande Matram will be made compulsory in all schools and educational institutions across the state.
Speaking at an 'Ekta Yatra' and Vande Mataram mass singing event in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister said the move was aimed to instill a sense of reverence and pride towards the nation.
"There should be a sense of respect for the national song Vande Mataram. We will make its singing compulsory in every school and educational institution of Uttar Pradesh," Adityanath said while addressing the gathering.
The announcement came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated year-long commemoration of Vande Mataram to mark 150 years of the national song at an event in Delhi.
