In a startling revelation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a massive scam involving the supply of adulterated ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
According to the CBI's Special Investigation Team (SIT), a dairy in Uttarakhand — which never purchased a single drop of milk or butter — supplied 6.8 million kilograms of ghee to the TTD between 2019 and 2024. The ghee, valued at around ₹250 crore, was allegedly used to make the temple's sacred laddus, consumed by millions of devotees as prasad.
The investigation has raised serious questions about the temple trust's internal checks and monitoring systems that failed to detect the scam running for several years.
