When the North Bay Battalion spoiled Alessandro Di Iorio’s storybook finish, he went out and wrote an even better one.

The Sarnia Sting centre scored two goals, including the overtime winner, in his long-awaited season debut Sunday for a 6-5 victory in front of 3,449 fans at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

“To be able to come back and do that, it’s really special,” Di Iorio said. “I owe it all to my teammates. We played a really complete game and they put me in position to succeed.”

His first goal was set to be the winner until the Battalion’s Ihnat Pazii forced overtime by scoring with 12.9 seconds left in regulation.
