(CNN) - President Donald Trump called people who don’t support tariffs “fools” and floated the idea of $2,000 rebate checks for almost all Americans in a social media post Sunday.

Trump said on Truth Social that the United States is taking in trillions of dollars thanks to far-reaching tariffs he has imposed since taking office in January. He said the country will soon start paying down $37 trillion in debt.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country in the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price,” Trump wrote.

The president also said a “dividend” of at least $2,000 would be paid to everyone, not including “high income people.”
