Britain's tax authority is examining its decision to remove child benefit from around 23,500 recipients during an anti-fraud initiative. It is understood HMRC used travel records to establish whether individuals had departed the country for good. ‌

But this may have led to some people having benefits withdrawn incorrectly. Now HM Revenue and Customs has issued an apology "to those whose payments have been suspended incorrectly". ‌
