A woman in China ended up paying 280 times the original price for a one-night stay after her cancellation request was denied.
The incident took place in Jiangsu province, where a woman surnamed Chen had booked a hotel room for 108 yuan (approximately Rs 1,300). When she attempted to cancel the booking, the hotel refused, and she was ultimately charged 30,000 yuan (around Rs 3.6 lakh).
Here’s what happened
She checked in late at night. Everything seemed fine at first, but about 30 minutes later, she asked the hotel to cancel her stay and get a full refund, citing a “change of plans" as her reason.
The hotel’s manager, Xiong, reviewed the request but explained that their cancellation policy clearly states that refunds are not possible once a guest has checked in,
