HOUSTON, Texas – A firefighter is recovering after being hospitalized while responding to a building fire in Houston’s Third Ward on Monday morning.

Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department responded to the building fire located in the 2500 block of Southmore around 2 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they said the the building collapased, injuring one of the responding firefighters.

The firefighter did not sustain serious injuries, according to officials; he was transported to the hospital and later released.

It’s not clear how the fire started at the business, but firefighters said it began on the first floor of the building.
