The Supreme Court on Monday declined a petition to revisit its 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage across the country.

Kim Davis , the former county clerk in Kentucky who had refused to issue licenses in the wake of the 2015 ruling, sought to overturn the decision in Obergefell vs. Hodges.

For the Supreme Court to review her case, at least four of the nine justices would have had to agree. That had created worry about LGBTQ groups, given the court’s shift to the right over the past decade. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, as well as Chief Justice John Roberts, were in the minority in the Obergefell ruling.
